Before we start I want to clarify that, in the rationality of the research, implementation dell'Happo tours with the sole aim of philosophical representation, is likely to lead the practitioner to not give importance to the precision of the steps, stability of the pelvis and slashing. One would only symbolize the 2, 4 and 8-way ends in themselves, and it would be all there. However, if you exercise in the most effective technique, balance, cleanliness of the movement, so that the blow is clean, powerful and stable body, the true philo appear spontaneously and clearly.
To get to perform the exercise completely and accurately you have to go through some basic exercises of ' Aikiken :
Shomen Uchi - Chop to the head - that is captured with the study of the first three suburi Ken Suburi Nanahon (the seven movements sword) . L ' Happo Giri is designed on the development of traditional first suburi.
Having acquired a certain mastery of the first to go to practice suburi Zengo Giri, the number of Shomen Uchi performed in 2 directions. So the practice of Shiho Giri, performed the same exercise in 4 directions: north, south, east, west. Finally, adding the other 4 directions: southeast, northwest, southwest enord-east, we get the ' Happo Giri , the eight directions.
In the spirit of philosophical styles of Aikido are different interpretations of this exercise. The following is a summary derived from writings on the philosophical principles drawn from O Sensei, the consistent practice of Aikido Ryu.
The foundations of the philosophy of Aikido drawn by O Sensei is based on a spirit ICHIREI, Shikon four cores and eight Hachiriki powers. This ideological base is well represented in the exercise dell'Happo Giri.
ICHIREI - ONE SPIRIT, second O Sensei, is the only source of creation
The combination KA ( fire) and MI (water), it generates steam, air, gas, energy (ki), giving rise to the sun and stars and all the components of life. Intuition old, but has reflected in modern science.
In Japanese spirit-deity is said KAMI , union of fire and water.
The Shinto (Way of the Gods), is a native religion of Japan and in the past was its state religion. Provides for the worship of kami, which are the basic concept of religion Shinto: This term is usually translated as god, but originally, they were the symbol of something that has no manifestation in the physical plane of existence. "Ka" and "I" means fire and water respectively, as a sort of union of the two basic elements of nature in popular culture, Kami was then conceived as divinity, and the kanji for spirit or deity, and I replaced the Ka .
The Divine, in the modern Eastern culture, it is not something supernatural, God or whatever, the divine is conceived as something superhuman ..., a state of consciousness-knowledge beyond the ordinary thinking. According to Morihei Ueshiba, aikido, when it comes to real insight, to capture the intent to drive the energy, you have reached this state of "divine spirit."
"Aikido is divine" - "The divine is within you" .
Aikido then represent One-spirit with Shomen Uchi, a-blow.
In practice, performing Shomen Uchi, continually seek the stability of body fluid (water) 's most powerful energy (fire) centralized and concentrated, all in one gesture.
The Shomen Uchi Aikido is different from that used to hit. The Ken, in suburi, down to the parallel port to the mat. It 's a blow that falls directly on the central line is a hit with a long arc towards the opponent's head (the sword takes her life), as in other arts of the sword. It 's a blow concentrated stabilization of the defense (the sword that gives life). Of course, its power is such that they should, ideologically, cut in two the entire body. In this perspective would be better defined Shomen Uchi as a blow to the center of the head (which does not require the target), rather than blow to the head center (who needs the target ).
The man with the sword, symbol of justice, shall be entitled to take the blow quickly to block the initiative to attack, or may decide to cut to kill, in separate KAMI KA and MI. And 'all of the sword (fire) with the heart (water) that decides for life (compassion), separating sword, and the heart has died (violence and cruelty). So if we stay united KAMI KA-MI life if we are separated death.
relation to man, KA (fire) is the rough nature, wild, impetuous, brave, MI (water) is the gentle nature, malleable, meek and cautious. This unit generates wisdom.
contrast, the division of KA and MI creates the duality of all things, and conflict of opposites that flows, is inherent in mankind. The KA and MI are the Japanese version of Chinese Yang and Yin.

Shikon - Four Souls: Courage (fire), Wisdom (air, sky, atmosphere), Love-Union (water), Empathy, Compassion (ground).
Shiho Giri, is evouzione of the Shomen Uchi in four directions represents The four cores.
As we said fire (KA) and water (MI) leads to the atmosphere, which gives life to the nature of the earth, and then to humans.
Man is distinguished from the world of plants, mineral and animal than for a soul. The core is designed with the union of 4 sets: Energy (Ki), sentiment, intelligence and consciousness.
The mineral world has only Energy (Ki of the earth) The plant world has
Energy (Ki of the earth) + sentiment sensitivity (Ki water)
The animal, depending on the species, has Energy (Ki of the earth) + feeling (Ki water) + intelligence (Ki of the sky)
Man Energy (KI earth) + feeling (KI water) + intelligence (Ki of Heaven) + consciousness (Ki of fire)
O Sensei for the human soul is consolidated under the 4 (four cores).
1-Courage (first virtue).
Ara Mitama it looks rough, wild and fierce human soul. If properly channeled is a source of courage, of the value of progress and a powerful force. But if poorly channeled port audacity uncontrolled contempt for life, the destruction, the devastating power.
Ara Mitama, source of courage, is associated with the fire. E 'principle of initiative.
  2-Love and Union (third virtue)
Nigi Mitama it looks nice, peaceful and tender of the human soul. It 's the source of research and harmony, respect and fidelity. Build unity and sociability. Leads to empathy
Nigi Mitani source of love and union, is associated with water. E 'principle of consolidation.
   3-Wisdom (second virtue)
Kushi Mitani it looks smart, deep and mysterious human soul. It 's the source of the will, purity and virtue. Leads to wisdom.
Kushi Mitani source of wisdom, is associated with the air and sky. E 'principle of centralization.
   4-Empathy and Compassion (fourth virtue)
Saki Mitama it looks optimistic, bright and flourishing of the human soul, leads to socialize. It 's the source of compassion.
Empathy means an attitude towards others characterized by an intellectual effort to understand the other, ruling out any personal emotional attitudes (sympathy, antipathy), and any moral judgments. Saki Mitani source of compassion and empathy, and associated with the earth. E 'principle of differentiation.
Courage is opposed to love. Courage without love leads to the bravado and the senseless risk. Love has no strength or courage.

Wisdom is opposed to empathy. Wisdom without compassion is detached and cold. Empathy without wisdom becomes injustice.

In the practice of Shiho Giri, look for the stability of the solid (the ground), moving fluid (water) and with more energy powerful (air and fire) by centralizing the four directions in a single center.

As you notice any direction is opposite to (Yin and Yang), the center is the union of Yin and Yang. This representation
originates in ' I Ching. According to Chinese philosophy the whole universe is made up of eight core elements (in Chinese pa-kua) formed through the combination of the two major forces of Yin and Yang. Each combination is represented by a symbol called a "trigram" as consisting of three lines. These lines can be "broken" (yin, the negative principle) or "whole" (yang or positive principle). The number of possible combinations of a trigram consisting of three lines is eight: hence, it is said, represent the entire universe.

The eight trigrams, according to the classical representation, in a circle around the symbol of Tai chi. This is the report that the trigrams have each other, not opposites but mutually dependent, as each competes with the others to the composition of the Universe. The eight elements in Chinese:
1. SKY
2. LAKE
3. FIRE
4. THUNDER
5. WIND
6. WATER
7. MOUNTAIN
8. LAND
Together, these concepts and symbols represent the balance of nature.

In the practice of Happo Giri, look for the stability of the solid (stable), following the current (follow-sell-indulge) with flowing movement (water) and with more penetrating power (air and fire) by centralizing the eight directions in a single center.
